Bocce At Grenadier Island Country Club
The Grenadier Island Country Club boasts two new bocce courts, built in the summer of 2013. Located southwest of the dining room, these 10×60 courts provide a great space for members to enjoy the game.
Adjacent to the courts, a 12×24 deck offers an excellent viewing area for players and spectators. Equipped with sunbrellas, tables, chairs, and a portable bar, the deck enhances the bocce experience. Additionally, two comfortable Adirondack-style chairs have been donated by members, and we welcome further donations.
Our bocce league kicks off in July, meeting every Tuesday at 9:30 am to coincide with Ladies Golf. The season concludes with a Bocce & Bites party in late August. Check the Yearbook for more details.
The original Bocce Committee, led by Hunter Grant, Brock Gorrell, and Bill Grimsdale, established a strong foundation for the game at GICC. Currently, Greg Goggins serve as the Chair.
To familiarize yourself with our bocce facilities and process:
- The club provides three sets of bocce balls: a junior set donated by Doug Thomson and two senior sets donated by Hunter Grant. These can be obtained from the coordinators and should be returned to their respective containers after play.
- A broom is available for sweeping the Har-Tru court surface after matches.
- Please wear shoes with non-heavy treads, such as tennis shoes or Top Siders.
- Basic bocce rules are available from the coordinators for those new to the sport. You can also find the rules online here.
- Children are welcome to play but should be accompanied by an adult.
- If you require the portable bar, please inform the coordinators. Chits will be available for beverage sign-out.
Enjoy playing bocce at GICC and make the most of this wonderful facility!
